Germany Ready for India Submarine Deal, Awaits New Delhi Approval

Germany is prepared to move forward with India's ambitious submarine acquisition programme, pending approval from New Delhi. Under Project 75(I), the two nations are expected to jointly develop and manufacture six next-generation submarines through a partnership between India's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS).

The project represents a significant expansion of India's underwater capabilities and forms part of the country's broader naval modernisation strategy. The submarines are expected to incorporate advanced German technology while leveraging India's indigenous shipbuilding expertise and manufacturing capacity.

While Berlin has confirmed its commitment to the initiative, the project's timeline remains dependent on formal clearance from Indian authorities. Defence ministry officials are currently reviewing the technical specifications and financial parameters of the partnership agreement.

The Project 75(I) submarines are designed to replace India's aging conventional submarine fleet and enhance the nation's maritime security posture in the Indian Ocean region. Once commissioned, the vessels will feature state-of-the-art combat systems and extended operational range capabilities.
