A multifaceted festival combining traditional gong performances, artistic displays, sporting competitions and volcano tourism launched this week in Gia Lai province. The event aims to showcase the region's cultural heritage and natural attractions to domestic and international visitors.

The festival opened October 30 in Ia Gri village, Bien Ho commune, marking the start of the Gong Festival – Wild Sunflower Week – Chu Dang Ya Volcano 2026 initiative. Organizers have programmed a diverse calendar of activities spanning cultural performances, artistic exhibitions, sporting events and tourism experiences across the designated period.

The program reflects provincial authorities' strategy to leverage Gia Lai's distinctive assets—its indigenous gong culture, natural landscape and agricultural heritage—as catalysts for economic development. By clustering these activities under an integrated festival banner, planners aim to extend visitor stays and increase spending across accommodation, dining and local services.

The initiative positions Chu Dang Ya volcano as a centerpiece attraction, capitalizing on growing domestic interest in geological tourism and outdoor recreation. Cultural programming highlighting traditional gong performances and indigenous artistic practices targets both heritage-conscious travelers and general tourism markets.

Gia Lai has pursued similar integrated tourism strategies in recent years, including efforts to attract investment and strengthen trade relationships through sectoral initiatives. The festival structure suggests provincial officials view sustained calendar events as vehicles for achieving broader economic objectives beyond traditional tourism metrics.
