Giant coconut leaf bridge begins sea voyage to Ho Chi Minh City

A specialized barge departed Vung Tau on Sunday morning, beginning the final leg of transport for an innovative pedestrian bridge designed to resemble a coconut leaf. The journey covers approximately 124 kilometers along Vietnam's coastal waters toward Ho Chi Minh City's central district, where the structure will undergo final assembly.

The transport operation involves moving both the bridge structure and its supporting framework, together weighing 3,400 tons. The sea route was selected to safely convey the oversized components to the city center, avoiding logistical constraints that would arise from land-based transport through congested urban areas.

The coconut leaf-shaped design represents a distinctive architectural approach to the pedestrian bridge project, incorporating local cultural symbolism into the infrastructure. Upon arrival at its destination, construction teams will complete the final assembly and installation work to prepare the bridge for public use.

The project reflects Ho Chi Minh City's ongoing efforts to expand pedestrian infrastructure and improve connectivity across the metropolitan area. The completion of this bridge will add to the city's network of public walkways and transportation options for residents and visitors.
