Crude oil prices have risen in international markets, driven by movements affecting major global benchmarks. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude advanced to USD 103.38 per barrel, reflecting a 1.35% increase from previous levels. Brent crude, the key European benchmark, climbed to USD 116.54 per barrel, up 1.44% in the same period.
The Middle Eastern marker crude Murban was trading at USD 114.76 per barrel, adding to the broader upward trend across crude oil indices. The increases indicate shifting market conditions in the global energy sector, which carries significant implications for fuel prices and energy costs across South and Southeast Asia.
Fluctuations in international crude benchmarks typically influence domestic fuel pricing in the region within weeks. Sri Lanka, which relies heavily on imported energy, remains sensitive to such global commodity price movements. Market analysts continue to monitor geopolitical and economic factors that influence crude oil price trajectories, with potential ramifications for consumer energy costs and inflationary pressures across the subcontinent.
