Global packaging giants to pour ₹6,566 crore into UP plants

Ball Corporation, Crown Holdings and Canpack are set to establish aluminium beverage can manufacturing units in Meerut and Unnao as part of a combined investment of ₹6,566 crore, according to industry sources. The expansion by these global packaging majors represents a major vote of confidence in Uttar Pradesh's manufacturing capabilities and infrastructure.

The three companies plan to set up state-of-the-art production facilities that will cater to India's growing beverage industry and potentially serve export markets. Aluminium beverage cans have emerged as a preferred packaging option for soft drinks, energy drinks, and alcoholic beverages, driven by their recyclability and sustainability credentials.

Uttar Pradesh has been actively positioning itself as a hub for advanced manufacturing, offering competitive incentives and regulatory support to attract major industrial investments. The beverage can manufacturing sector, in particular, has gained traction as companies seek to establish production bases closer to key consumption centres in northern India.

These investments are expected to generate substantial employment opportunities and support ancillary industries in the state. The plants will also contribute to the government's broader manufacturing ambitions under schemes aimed at boosting domestic production and reducing import dependence on packaged beverage containers.

The timing of these announcements comes as Indian beverage manufacturers increasingly prioritize sustainable packaging solutions to meet both regulatory requirements and consumer preferences for environmentally responsible products.
