Go Champion Lee Se-dol Turns to Manual Labor in New Reality Show

Lee Se-dol, who made international headlines in 2016 by winning a match against Google's AlphaGo—an AI system that had been considered unbeatable—is embarking on a new venture in entertainment. The South Korean Go legend will appear in a reality show premiering on KBS2 on October 23, taking on hands-on work that continues to challenge artificial intelligence capabilities.

The program features Lee performing manual labor jobs that require human dexterity, problem-solving, and adaptability. Among the tasks showcased is window cleaning on high-rise buildings, work that demands physical skill and risk assessment that remains outside the scope of current AI systems.

Lee's transition to manual work represents a shift from his professional Go career. His historic victory against AlphaGo in their five-game match in 2016 remains a significant milestone in the competition between human cognition and machine learning, with Lee securing the only victory in that series.

The reality show aims to highlight the types of physical and manual tasks where humans continue to maintain an advantage over artificial intelligence, demonstrating the persistent value of human labor in an increasingly automated world.
