Goa's election system flags digital glitch in voter approval process

A procedural bottleneck in Goa's electoral management system has exposed gaps in the Election Commission of India's digital infrastructure, raising questions about the efficiency of its voter registration platform.

During the Systematic Invalidation of Entries (SIR) process, 97 voters were deemed eligible by the Election Registration Officer (ERO) after document verification, yet could not be incorporated into the final electoral roll. The setback occurred because ECINet, the poll body's online system, lacked the technical capability to reverse prior decisions and update voter status accordingly.

Election officials confirmed that the voters met all eligibility criteria following administrative scrutiny. However, the absence of a functional override mechanism in the commission's digital infrastructure meant that bureaucratic approvals could not translate into voter list amendments. The issue underscores limitations in the technological backbone supporting India's massive electoral administration across its states and union territories.
