Godavari Swells as Authorities Rush to Protect Villages

Authorities in the Godavari basin have mobilized emergency response operations as water levels in the river surge, threatening hundreds of settlements across its flood plain. The administration has issued precautionary alerts to approximately 160 villages, urging residents to remain vigilant and prepared for potential evacuation.

Among the most urgent concerns are pregnant women requiring antenatal care. Health officials have already relocated 134 expectant mothers to nearby hospitals equipped to handle deliveries and prenatal complications. The transfers aim to prevent medical emergencies in vulnerable populations should flooding intensify across affected areas.

As part of broader relief preparations, authorities have established 105 relief centres across the region to provide shelter, food, and basic supplies to residents if evacuation becomes necessary. These centres have been stocked with essential provisions and staffed with trained personnel to manage large populations if needed.

The Godavari's rise comes as the Sabri river, a tributary in the region, recedes from earlier flood levels. Officials continue monitoring weather forecasts and water discharge rates to determine if further precautionary measures will be required.
