Bengaluru airport authorities have apprehended a passenger for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold through an unconventional method. Mohammed Siraj, an Indian national, was intercepted during routine screening after his arrival from Dubai on Wednesday.
Customs officials discovered 82 grams of yellow metal fashioned into capsules hidden inside the passenger's mouth during examination procedures. Siraj had arrived at Kempegowda International Airport and was scheduled to board a connecting flight to Ghaziabad, according to airport authorities.
The discovery represents another instance of attempted gold smuggling through India's major aviation hubs, where concealment methods continue to evolve. Officials have initiated further investigation into the incident to determine the origin of the contraband and any potential involvement of organized smuggling networks.
The confiscated gold has been seized, and the passenger remains under custody pending completion of legal formalities. Airport authorities have increased vigilance at screening points to detect similar smuggling attempts.
