Gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange surged 2.32 percent during afternoon trade, with the September contract climbing Rs 3,554 to settle at Rs 1,56,637 per 10 grams. The gains reflect a broader bullion market rally, with international gold prices approaching the $4,500 mark as safe-haven demand continues to support valuations across global exchanges.
Silver demonstrated even stronger momentum on domestic bourses, with the September futures contract jumping 2.05 percent to Rs 2,37,172 per kilogram. The white metal's outperformance underscores sustained investor interest in precious metals, particularly among traders seeking portfolio diversification and inflation hedges.
Market analysts attribute the recent strength to multiple factors, including central bank policy considerations and shifting macroeconomic outlooks. The pullback in US Treasury yields and expectations surrounding Federal Reserve monetary policy have rekindled investor interest in non-yielding assets like gold and silver, which tend to benefit when real interest rates decline.
Indian investors have traditionally viewed precious metals as core portfolio holdings, and recent price movements are likely to attract fresh buying interest across both retail and institutional segments. The rally comes at a time when global geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties continue to support demand for assets perceived as stores of value.
