Goldie Hawn's MindUP programme reaches 7 million children globally

MindUP, a pioneering emotional literacy programme, has grown into a significant global initiative since its development by the Goldie Hawn Foundation. Established in 2003, the foundation created MindUP in partnership with leading neuroscience and child development experts to embed mindfulness practices within educational curricula.

The programme has now reached over 7 million children across 48 countries, offering structured lessons designed to build emotional awareness and resilience. By integrating neuroscience research with mindfulness techniques, MindUP teaches children aged 3 to 14 practical skills in emotional regulation, empathy, and stress management—capabilities increasingly recognised as essential alongside traditional academic learning.

The curriculum focuses on helping young learners understand their own emotions and develop healthy responses to stress and anxiety. Teachers and parents utilising the programme report improved classroom behaviour and greater emotional well-being among participants.

Recognising the growing mental health challenges facing children worldwide, the foundation has made resources available online, enabling educators and families to access MindUP materials regardless of geographical location. The initiative represents a significant effort to build emotional intelligence as a foundational life skill across diverse cultural and educational contexts.
