The Government has implemented measures to speed up the issuance of Government Analyst's reports as part of efforts to address overcrowding within Sri Lanka's prison system, Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara announced in Parliament on Thursday.

The Minister identified delays in obtaining these reports as one of several factors contributing to the congestion in correctional facilities across the country. To address the bottleneck, the Justice Ministry has strengthened resources and procedures to expedite the report generation process.

According to Nanayakkara, the acceleration measures have already shown results. During August and September, 1,506 Government Analyst's reports were issued following the implementation of the initiatives to strengthen the reporting mechanism.

The move is part of a broader government strategy to improve efficiency within the criminal justice system and reduce the burden on prison facilities. Officials expect the faster turnaround time for analyst reports will facilitate swifter case processing and reduce the number of detainees awaiting trial, thereby alleviating pressure on the nation's correctional institutions.
