The Andhra Pradesh government has earmarked ₹300 crore for comprehensive road infrastructure development in anticipation of the Godavari Pushkaram scheduled for 2027. The investment represents part of broader efforts to prepare the region for one of the world's largest religious congregations, which draws millions of pilgrims to sacred ghats along the Godavari River.
Pushkaram events, held once every 12 years at each of India's major rivers, attract devotees from across the country and abroad. The Godavari Pushkaram, in particular, holds immense spiritual significance for Hindu pilgrims who gather to bathe in the river during the auspicious period.
The road development project will focus on improving connectivity to key pilgrimage sites and accommodating increased vehicular traffic during the festival period. Officials indicated that enhanced infrastructure would facilitate smoother movement of pilgrims and reduce congestion at crucial junctures.
The announcement reflects state-level preparations beginning well in advance of the event, with authorities coordinating with multiple departments to ensure adequate accommodation, sanitation, and safety measures. Similar large-scale infrastructure initiatives were undertaken for previous Pushkaram events held at other major river systems.
