Government compensation to Semantan Estate exceeded recommendations, court hears
A senior government official has testified that the RM1.39 million in compensation paid to Semantan Estate in 1956 exceeded the amount he had recommended. The statement was made during proceedings at the High Court.

Tan Tat Khuan, an assistant director with the government's land and survey department, told the High Court that the compensation amount disbursed by the government was substantially higher than his initial assessment. According to Tan's testimony, the 1956 payment represented a figure above what he had advised as appropriate for the matter. The court was presented with documentation outlining the government's compensation decisions during the period in question. Tan's statement forms part of the broader examination into the historical land transaction and the adequacy of compensation arrangements made decades ago. The High Court is expected to consider these submissions as part of its assessment of the case.
