Government extends export tax remission schemes through year-end
The Centre has extended two key export incentive schemes by three months until December 31, providing continued relief to exporters on embedded levies. Industry bodies, however, are pushing for a longer-term extension to provide greater certainty.

The government has prolonged the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) and Remission of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL) schemes until the end of the year, offering temporary reprieve to India's export sector.
Both schemes function as refund mechanisms, reimbursing exporters for various non-creditable embedded levies and taxes that would otherwise increase the cost of exports and reduce competitiveness in global markets. The three-month extension ensures continuity of these support measures as the government reviews its broader export incentive framework.
While the extension provides immediate relief, export industry representatives have called for a more substantial commitment. Industry bodies have urged the government to approve a five-year extension of both schemes, arguing that longer-term predictability would enable exporters to better plan investments and operations without the uncertainty of repeated short-term renewals.
The schemes have become increasingly important for Indian exporters facing global headwinds and competition from other nations with established export support mechanisms. Sectors ranging from textiles and leather goods to engineering and chemicals rely on these remission schemes to maintain export competitiveness.
