Government pushes online platforms to fully adopt fraud prevention code

KLANG — The Malaysian government is calling on all online platforms operating in the country to fully implement the Risk Mitigation Code as part of a broader push to reduce online fraud and protect digital consumers.

The appeal reflects growing concern over the rising tide of online scams affecting Malaysian users. By requiring platforms to adopt standardized risk management protocols, authorities aim to establish consistent safeguards across the digital ecosystem.

The Risk Mitigation Code sets out requirements for online platforms to identify, assess, and address potential fraud risks on their services. Compliance measures include enhanced user verification, transaction monitoring, and rapid response mechanisms to suspicious activities.

Government officials have stressed that piecemeal or partial adoption of the code will prove insufficient in tackling the problem. Full compliance across all major platforms is necessary to create a coordinated defense against fraudsters who exploit gaps in existing safety protocols.
