Government reminds PAS deputy of previous confidence and supply role

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil has reminded PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim that the party participated in a confidence and supply agreement during the previous administration, in response to Tuan Ibrahim's remarks about the current arrangement not establishing a new political culture.

Tuan Ibrahim had expressed concerns that the latest confidence and supply agreement should not be viewed as introducing a new political norm, appearing to distance PAS from the current mechanism.

Fahmi's response highlights that PAS was part of the Cabinet structure when a similar confidence and supply agreement was implemented in 2021, suggesting the party's involvement in such arrangements is not unprecedented.

The confidence and supply agreement serves as a parliamentary support mechanism where opposition parties agree to back the government on key votes without formally joining the Cabinet, allowing the government to maintain a working majority in parliament.

The exchange reflects ongoing political discussions about the nature of Malaysia's coalition arrangements and the roles various parties play in supporting the government.
