Government rolls out e-auto subsidy scheme for gig and construction workers

A government minister has announced a targeted subsidy programme designed to support drivers, gig workers, and construction labourers in adopting electric vehicles. The initiative aims to reduce both operational costs and environmental impact within these labour-intensive sectors.

Under the scheme, eligible workers will receive subsidies covering up to half the cost of purchasing new electric auto-rickshaws, with individual assistance capped at ₹75,000. The programme is expected to benefit approximately 1,000 workers in its initial phase.
