Government says King ordered probe into state firms, not to intimidate Umno
Malaysia's government has clarified that an investigation into state-linked entities was initiated on royal directive to address governance concerns, not as a political move against the opposition party.

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the investigations into Tabung Haji and Felda were ordered by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim following concerns about the entities' operations and management. The clarification comes as the government faces suggestions that the probes represent political intimidation of Umno leaders, several of whom have held positions within the state firms. Fahmi stressed that the directive from the King was rooted in addressing systemic issues within both organizations rather than targeting any political party or individual. The spokesman did not elaborate on specific concerns that prompted the royal order or provide a timeline for the investigations. Tabung Haji and Felda are significant state-linked institutions that manage funds and land respectively, and have been subjects of public scrutiny regarding their financial performance and governance structures in recent years.
