Government subsidy enables Iloilo transport coop to run full fleet
A transport cooperative in Iloilo City is deploying its entire fleet of 95 modernized jeepneys thanks to monthly financial assistance from the government. The funding is helping the group offset the impact of rising fuel costs on operations.

ILOILO CITY — Financial support from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is enabling the Western Visayas Transport Cooperative (WVTC) to maintain full operational capacity amid escalating fuel expenses.
WVTC Chair Raymundo "Boyet" Parcon said the cooperative is receiving P20,000 in monthly subsidies per vehicle, allowing all 95 of its recently modernized jeepneys to remain in service. The assistance addresses challenges posed by volatile fuel prices that have strained transport operators' profitability.
The move reflects efforts by transport regulators to support public transportation providers while ensuring service continuity for commuters across the region. The cooperative's ability to deploy its complete fleet is expected to improve accessibility and frequency of routes serving Iloilo residents.
Transport operators in the Western Visayas have increasingly sought government support as fuel costs continue to pressure their operating margins. The LTFRB's assistance program aims to stabilize the transport sector while helping cooperatives invest in vehicle modernization initiatives.
