Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage announced that the government will arrange a new set of javelins for champion athlete Rumesh Tharanga following damage to his equipment during travel.
Tharanga, who recently secured titles at both the Ultimate and Diamond League competitions, had five javelins severely damaged while travelling back to Sri Lanka after his victories abroad.
The minister's commitment reflects government support for the athlete's continued preparation and training. Tharanga's recent championship wins have marked significant achievements for Sri Lankan athletics on the international stage.
The replacement javelins are expected to ensure the champion can maintain his training regimen without interruption as he prepares for upcoming competitions.
