Government to Roll Out Official Email System for Public Servants

The government has approved a comprehensive scheme to equip all public officials with dedicated email accounts, according to Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne of the Ministry of Digital Economy. The move represents a significant step towards digitising government operations and enhancing administrative efficiency across the public service.

The initiative is expected to strengthen connectivity between government agencies and facilitate swifter communication channels among officials. By establishing a standardised email system, the government aims to create a more cohesive framework for inter-departmental collaboration and reduce delays in official correspondence.

Official email addresses will also simplify document sharing and record-keeping procedures across government institutions, Deputy Minister Weeraratne said. The system is anticipated to improve transparency and accountability within the public sector while reducing reliance on personal email accounts for official government business.

The implementation of the official email scheme forms part of the government's broader digital transformation agenda to modernise public administration and improve service delivery to citizens. Further details regarding the timeline for rollout and technical specifications of the system are expected to be announced by the ministry in due course.
