Government to subsidise medicine delivery costs from October

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), under the Communications Ministry, will absorb postal delivery costs for pharmaceutical items as part of a collaborative effort with the Health Ministry, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced on Wednesday.

The initiative, effective from October 1, aims to reduce out-of-pocket expenses for patients requiring regular medication deliveries. By subsidising postage fees, the programme seeks to improve medication accessibility across Malaysia, particularly in remote and underserved areas where pharmacy access may be limited.

The MCMC-Health Ministry partnership represents a coordinated approach to healthcare delivery, leveraging postal infrastructure to support pharmaceutical distribution. The arrangement is expected to benefit patients managing chronic conditions who rely on regular medicine supplies.

Fahmi made the announcement while in Padang Besar, signalling the government's commitment to integrating communication services with healthcare objectives. Officials indicated that implementation details and eligible medications would be clarified in the coming weeks as the October launch date approaches.
