GovTech cuts 38 jobs in second tranche of planned restructuring

GovTech has proceeded with the second phase of its workforce restructuring programme, affecting 38 staff members. The agency announced in July that it would reduce headcount by between 7 and 9 per cent through three separate rounds of retrenchments as it transitions to a revised operating framework.

The layoffs are part of a deliberate organisational redesign rather than a response to financial pressures. GovTech, which develops and delivers digital infrastructure and services for the Singapore government, said the restructuring would help it operate more efficiently under its new model.

With the completion of this second tranche, GovTech remains on track to implement the final phase of its planned reductions. The agency has not disclosed the total number of roles expected to be affected across all three rounds, though the stated percentage reduction suggests several hundred positions may be impacted in total.

The restructuring comes as government agencies across Singapore continue to modernise their operations and align workforce capabilities with evolving technological and service delivery requirements.
