GovTech must continually upgrade capabilities, PM Wong says

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has underscored the need for the Government Technology Agency to maintain a cycle of capability renewal as it marks a decade of operations.

Addressing attendees at GovTech's 10th anniversary dinner, Wong highlighted that the agency's continued evolution is essential to meet Singapore's digital governance needs. He stressed that policymakers and technologists must engage much earlier and more closely in the development process to ensure technology solutions align with policy objectives.

Wong also reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting officers affected by workforce restructuring. As Singapore's public sector continues its digital transformation, the government recognises the need to provide assistance and transition support to displaced workers.

GovTech, established a decade ago, has played a central role in Singapore's push to digitalise government services and improve citizen-facing platforms. Wong's remarks suggest the agency will maintain investment in emerging technologies and talent development to sustain its modernisation efforts.

The prime minister's comments reflect Singapore's broader strategy to position itself as a leading digital economy in the region while ensuring inclusive growth and supporting its workforce through technological change.
