The Union government has indicated to the Supreme Court that providing grace marks to Class 12 students impacted by technical glitches in the Central Board of Secondary Education's On-Screen Marking system may not be administratively viable.
The Centre's position came after the top court sought a comprehensive report on measures undertaken to address irregularities discovered in the OSM-based evaluation of answer sheets. The court has asked the government to file an affidavit detailing all remedial steps taken since the problems emerged.
The Supreme Court has also instructed the petitioner to submit a rejoinder highlighting specific instances where students seeking re-evaluation were unable to access the portal due to the technical issues. These cases are likely to form the basis for determining what relief, if any, can be provided to affected candidates.
The OSM system, used for evaluating CBSE board examination papers, faced multiple technical disruptions that prevented proper assessment of answer sheets. The discovery of these irregularities had prompted concerns among students and parents about the fairness of the evaluation process.
The court's intervention reflects growing scrutiny of the examination evaluation system, with the case now focusing on identifying all students who faced portal access issues and determining appropriate compensatory measures beyond grace marks.
