Groups push regulators to redistribute Move It's excess motorcycle taxi riders

MANILA — Civil society groups have urged the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to redistribute Move It's surplus riders across other motorcycle taxi platforms operating in Metro Manila. The advocacy organizations argue the reallocation would safeguard the income security of workers displaced by the company's overstaffing practices.

The LTFRB previously imposed a P555.75-million penalty on Move It after investigations revealed the platform had far exceeded its authorized complement of 17,746 rider-partners in the capital region. The company reportedly accumulated more than 55,000 excess riders, significantly breaching its regulatory approval parameters.

Advocacy groups contend that redistributing these riders to established competing platforms would maintain their employment prospects while ensuring compliance with transportation regulations. The proposal seeks to balance regulatory enforcement with worker protection, preventing mass displacement in the motorcycle taxi sector.

The move comes as the LTFRB continues monitoring compliance among ride-hailing and motorcycle taxi operators in Metro Manila. The agency has faced increasing pressure from transport worker organizations to implement enforcement measures that protect livelihood while maintaining service standards across the industry.
