GRS sets sights on 15-plus seats in next general election

The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition is preparing for the next general election with an ambitious three-pronged approach focused on consolidating existing voter bases while pursuing fresh ground in new areas. Coalition leadership outlined the "retain, regain, and reinforce" strategy as a roadmap for strengthening the bloc's position in parliament, where representation remains a key objective for the Sabah-based political grouping.

According to GRS secretary-general Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, recent performance at the state level provides a solid foundation for parliamentary ambitions. The coalition believes it possesses the capacity to secure more than 15 seats in the nationwide polls, marking a significant increase from its current parliamentary presence.

The retain component focuses on defending seats already held by GRS candidates, while the regain element targets constituencies previously represented by coalition members. The reinforce pillar seeks to strengthen organizational capabilities and grassroots mobilization efforts across the state.

The coalition's optimism is grounded in recent electoral cycles in Sabah, where GRS has demonstrated growing appeal among voters. The strategy reflects broader efforts within the bloc to position itself as a major force in peninsular-federal politics while maintaining strong ties to Sabah's electorate. GRS has not disclosed a specific timeline for testing its strategy at the ballot box.
