The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) announced Friday that it is opening emergency loan windows for members and pensioners affected by recent typhoon and monsoon-related disasters. The relief initiative aims to provide financial assistance to more than 317,000 active members and retirees whose homes and livelihoods have been disrupted by flooding and other weather-related damage.
The emergency lending program makes available nearly P8 billion in loans to eligible borrowers. Officials said the measure was designed to help GSIS members and pensioners cope with immediate expenses related to property damage, medical needs, and other calamity-related costs as communities work toward recovery.
The GSIS statement indicated that both active contributors and old-age pensioners qualify for the emergency assistance, broadening the reach of relief efforts across the government employee sector. The program represents part of wider efforts by the social security institution to support members during natural disasters and other emergency situations.
