Guan Eng calls for MACC probe into rural ministry spending

Lim Guan Eng has called on anti-corruption authorities to launch a formal investigation into spending practices at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, which is led by Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi.
The DAP politician raised concerns about the ministry's financial management, pointing to what he described as substantial over-expenditure during a three-year period. According to Lim's claims, the ministry accumulated RM2.1 billion in overspending from 2023 through 2025, representing a significant fiscal anomaly that warrants scrutiny.
Lim's appeal to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) reflects ongoing political scrutiny of government spending across federal agencies. The allegations touch on broader questions about fiscal discipline and oversight mechanisms within Malaysia's public sector.
The MACC has not yet responded to requests for investigation. The claims come amid continued parliamentary debate over government expenditure and accountability measures across different ministries and their respective portfolios.
