The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Vadodara, Gujarat, seized approximately 8,136 kilograms of suspicious ghee valued at an estimated Rs 42 lakh during a pre-Diwali enforcement operation. Officials conducted an unannounced inspection of a food manufacturing facility and discovered the substandard product, which authorities believe was intended for distribution under established brand names in the market.
Following standard protocol, the FDA has collected four samples from the seized consignment and sent them to the government laboratory for detailed analysis. The samples will be tested to determine the exact composition and identify any adulteration or deviation from food safety standards.
The outcome of the laboratory examination will determine further action against the manufacturing unit and those responsible for the operation. Authorities have not released additional details about the facility or the intended distribution network. The seizure underscores intensified food safety inspections ahead of major festivals, when consumer demand for edible oils and ghee typically increases.
