Gujarat clears bill allowing round-the-clock retail and hospitality operations

The Gujarat Legislative Assembly has approved the 'Gujarat Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2026', which will enable commercial establishments including retail outlets, shopping malls and restaurants to remain open throughout the day and night without time restrictions.

Dr. Jayram Gamit, the state's Industry Minister, announced the passage of the legislation on the assembly floor. According to the minister, the bill represents a significant step towards simplifying regulatory processes governing industrial and commercial activities in the state.

The new legislation aims to make Gujarat's business environment more streamlined, efficient, transparent and business-friendly. State authorities have positioned the move as part of efforts to attract greater investment and entrepreneurial activity to the region.

The round-the-clock operational flexibility is expected to benefit the retail, hospitality and food service sectors, which have previously operated under time-based restrictions. Business representatives have long advocated for extended operating hours to boost revenues and consumer convenience.
