Gujarat extends full interest waiver for housing scheme beneficiaries

The Gujarat government has extended a 100 percent penal interest waiver scheme aimed at providing relief to housing beneficiaries under its rural housing program. The initiative seeks to ease the financial burden on borrowers who have defaulted or faced difficulties in meeting loan obligations.

According to the Gujarat Rural Housing Board, the scheme's initial phase demonstrated significant reach and engagement with beneficiaries. A total of 22 recovery camps were organized at the district level during this first phase, facilitating direct interaction between officials and housing loan recipients.

The camps served as platforms for beneficiaries to resolve outstanding dues and understand the terms of the interest waiver scheme. This grassroots approach enabled the housing board to assess individual cases and provide tailored assistance to borrowers across rural areas.

By extending the full penal interest waiver, the state government aims to encourage loan repayment while supporting beneficiaries who have faced economic hardship.
