Gujarat police bust counterfeit currency racket, arrest two suspects

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Gujarat police conducted a major crackdown on counterfeit currency operations in Banaskantha district on Monday. Officers raided a location in Shihori village under Kankarej taluk, leading to the arrest of two individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal activity.

During the search operation, police recovered counterfeit Rs 500 notes with a total face value of approximately Rs 2.38 lakh. The seizure marks a significant breakthrough in combating currency counterfeiting in the region, according to police statements.

Investigators are now focused on determining the source of the fake currency and identifying the broader network behind the operation. Authorities are examining whether the suspects were part of a larger counterfeiting racket or operating independently.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and facing charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to counterfeiting currency. The investigation is ongoing, with police seeking to establish connections to other suspected operatives and supply chains involved in the circulation of fake notes.
