Gujarat to fast-track ex-Agniveers into police force with exam exemption
Gujarat will ease recruitment rules for former Agniveers completing military service, offering examination waivers and age concessions. The move aims to facilitate smoother transition for veterans into the state police force.

Gujarat is set to streamline police recruitment for ex-Agniveers who have completed their service tenure in the armed forces, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced. The state government will implement special provisions to facilitate their entry into the police department, removing conventional barriers to employment.
Under the new framework, former Agniveers will be exempted from the standard examination process typically required for police recruitment. Additionally, the state will reserve 20 per cent of positions specifically for this veteran cohort, ensuring dedicated pathways into law enforcement ranks.
Recognising the service background of Agniveers, the government will also provide a five-year age relaxation for candidates applying to Gujarat police. This concession addresses the time spent in military service and allows former personnel to apply without age-related disadvantages.
The initiative reflects efforts to support Agniveers transitioning to civilian employment following their military contracts. By facilitating police recruitment, Gujarat joins other states in recognising the disciplined background and skills acquired through the Agnipath scheme, which provides short-term military service opportunities to youth.
