Authorities in Jordan confirmed the deadly attack took place at the Greek Orthodox church during funeral proceedings. Video footage from Jordanian state television captured images of at least three gunmen approaching the church building and firing weapons, with one attacker appearing to be armed with a semiautomatic rifle.
Eyewitness accounts described scenes of chaos as mourners fled the church. Dorgham Halasa, who was among those inside the building, reported that heavy gunfire erupted approximately 15 minutes after the funeral service had commenced. "It was a weird situation, and heavy gunfire," Halasa said of the incident.
Footage taken by witnesses at the scene showed extensive damage to the church's interior, with broken glass and blood visible on the floor. While Halasa did not personally observe the gunmen, other mourners reported seeing up to four attackers, though the exact number of assailants could not be independently verified.
The attack marks a significant security incident in Jordan, which has faced occasional violent incidents in recent years despite generally maintaining stability in a volatile regional context. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the motive for the shooting or the status of any ongoing investigation.
