Gurugram cracks down on spitting, gum littering in public spaces

The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched a stringent enforcement campaign against littering and spitting in public spaces, issuing orders to levy fines on violators. The crackdown targets individuals found spitting paan, gutkha, or tobacco products, as well as those discarding chewing gum on streets, parks, and other shared public areas.

The directive comes as part of the civic body's renewed efforts to maintain sanitation standards and curb unhygienic practices across the city. Officials have identified specific zones and high-traffic areas where the rules will be strictly enforced, with penalties to be imposed on offenders caught in violation.

Under the enforcement mechanism, violators will be issued challans—formal traffic or civic violation notices—with associated monetary fines. The GMC has directed its sanitation and enforcement teams to conduct regular patrols and monitor public spaces to ensure compliance.

The move aligns with broader municipal cleanliness initiatives and existing regulations against public spitting and littering. Residents and visitors are advised to dispose of paan, tobacco products, and other waste in designated bins to avoid penalties. The corporation has urged citizens to cooperate in maintaining civic discipline and public hygiene standards across Gurugram.
