Gurugram district authorities have announced stringent measures to combat worsening air pollution, mandating that organisations operating in the region shift 50 percent of their workforce to work-from-home arrangements. Construction activities across the district have been suspended with immediate effect under the new restrictions.

The directives, which take effect from tomorrow, have been issued in compliance with guidelines from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the national body responsible for monitoring and addressing air quality issues in India's National Capital Region and surrounding areas.

District officials stated the measures will be uniformly enforced across all sectors and organisations operating within Gurugram's boundaries. The restrictions represent part of a broader response to deteriorating air quality conditions that have become increasingly acute during the winter months.

The suspension of construction work is expected to significantly reduce dust and particulate matter emissions, major contributors to the region's pollution levels. Authorities indicated that compliance with the work-from-home directive will help decrease vehicular traffic and associated emissions during peak pollution periods.

The CAQM regularly issues such directives during periods when air quality indices breach hazardous levels, requiring states and districts to implement emergency measures to protect public health and improve environmental conditions.
