A man from Gurugram ended his life by jumping from a high-rise building in Noida on Monday, according to police reports. The incident occurred despite the last-minute intervention effort by an air-conditioning technician who was working on an adjacent balcony at the time.
Before the tragedy, the man had reportedly communicated with his father about financial hardships and expressed a desire to return home. These conversations appear to have been among his final exchanges, suggesting mounting distress over his economic situation.
The AC technician, who witnessed the incident unfold, attempted to stop the man from jumping. However, by the time he moved to intervene, the resident had already leapt from the building. Emergency services responded to the scene, but the man could not be revived.
The incident highlights the mounting mental health crisis linked to financial stress in metropolitan areas of northern India. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities have not released further details pending completion of formalities.
Mental health experts have urged greater awareness of warning signs and the importance of reaching out to support services during periods of financial distress.
