Gurugram rains ease air quality but trigger traffic chaos from waterlogging
Overnight rainfall across Gurugram improved air quality levels significantly, but left commuters battling severe waterlogging at multiple key locations across the National Capital Region city.

Heavy overnight rainfall in Gurugram brought relief from deteriorating air quality, with the Air Quality Index showing marked improvement on Tuesday morning. However, the downpour created widespread traffic disruptions as waterlogging affected several critical stretches across the city, leaving commuters stranded during peak hours.
Key commercial and residential zones experienced the worst of the flooding. The Sector 10 area witnessed significant water accumulation on major roads, while the Sector 102/102A stretch—a vital arterial route—became virtually impassable for several hours. Sohna Road near Aria Mall also saw substantial waterlogging that hampered vehicular movement and added to congestion on surrounding routes.
Commuters reported extended travel times as traffic diversions were put in place to manage the congested conditions. Municipal authorities have attributed the waterlogging to the city's drainage infrastructure struggling to handle the intensity of the overnight rainfall.
While the precipitation has provided temporary relief from Gurugram's chronic air quality issues—a recurring winter challenge—the civic administration faces renewed pressure to address the underlying drainage problems that continue to plague the city during monsoon and heavy rainfall periods.
