Gurugram traffic gridlock worsens as RTR flyover repairs spawn new bottlenecks

Traffic congestion in Gurugram has intensified following the announcement of alternative routes around the RTR flyover under repair, contradicting authorities' expectations of eased movement on National Highway 48. The Gurugram traffic police released the revised routing Wednesday evening, intending to divert vehicles toward Dhaula Kuan in Delhi to bypass the affected stretch. However, the reroutes have instead transformed several alternate corridors into fresh bottlenecks, compounding travel delays for thousands of daily commuters.

The diversion strategy, designed to distribute traffic load across multiple routes, has overwhelmed the infrastructure on secondary roads unprepared for elevated volumes. Peak-hour commutes have become increasingly unpredictable, with drivers reporting substantial delays even on previously uncongested paths. The situation has drawn criticism from residents and business establishments dependent on smooth traffic flow through the region.

Transportation officials have not yet announced adjustments to the routing plan or provided revised timelines for the flyover repairs. The ongoing congestion underscores challenges in managing traffic during major infrastructure maintenance in rapidly expanding urban areas, where alternative route capacity often falls short of diverted vehicle numbers. Commuters have been advised to plan additional travel time and consider flexible work schedules where possible.
