Guwahati opens Northeast's first visa application centre

Guwahati has become home to the Northeast region's first dedicated visa application centre, marking a significant step toward simplifying international travel documentation for residents across Assam and neighbouring states.

The centre, established by VFS Global within the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) complex at Khanapara, will process visa applications for multiple countries without requiring applicants to travel to metropolitan centres. The facility addresses long-standing accessibility challenges faced by residents seeking to apply for visas, a process traditionally requiring journeys to distant cities.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the infrastructure development as a measure to ease travel-related administrative burdens. The centre's location within the ISBT complex enhances accessibility for visitors arriving from across the Northeast region.

VFS Global, a global leader in visa application services, operates similar centres across India and internationally. The Guwahati facility is expected to process applications for various countries and nationalities, providing comprehensive visa services to the region's residents.

The opening reflects growing efforts to decentralize government and institutional services in India's Northeast, reducing the need for citizens to relocate temporarily for essential documentation processes.
