The vehicle struck a group of worshippers assembled outside the Sheetla Mata Mandir in Gwalior late Saturday evening before colliding with the temple's gate structure. Emergency services rushed to the scene to assist the injured and retrieve the deceased from the accident site.
Authorities launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances that led to the tragedy. Police records indicate the truck was not under proper control when it struck the gathering of devotees, though the precise cause of the incident remained under examination.
In response to the incident, police administration took swift action against multiple officers. The police official overseeing the area was removed from position, while eight additional officers faced suspension pending a full inquiry into how the accident occurred and whether any lapses in duty contributed to the loss of life.
State authorities said investigations were continuing into the technical condition of the vehicle and the circumstances surrounding the driver's operation of the truck at the time of the incident. The temple authority and district administration have been coordinating relief efforts for the affected families.
