Hamilton apologises to Ferrari team after illness forces Singapore Grand Prix withdrawal
Lewis Hamilton missed mandatory post-race media duties following the Singapore Grand Prix after feeling unwell in the tropical heat. The British driver had earlier apologised to his Ferrari team for a strategic decision that cost him a potential podium finish.

Hamilton was cleared by FIA medical officials at the Marina Bay circuit to skip driver interviews following Sunday's race, which took place in Singapore's characteristically hot and humid conditions. The 39-year-old was visibly fatigued immediately after the chequered flag, taking a knee as he waited in line for the mandatory post-race weigh-in procedure.
In his radio message to the Ferrari pit wall shortly after crossing the finish line, Hamilton took full responsibility for a tactical call that ultimately proved costly. "Sorry boys, I let you down today with that strategy. My call and I lost us valuable points," he said, pledging to compensate for the lost points in upcoming races.
The strategy decision centred on Hamilton's choice to remain on his existing tyres rather than risk losing track position by making a second pit stop during a virtual safety car period. Teammate Charles Leclerc capitalised on the same opportunity by switching to fresh rubber, a move that proved strategically superior.
Despite the disappointment, Hamilton praised his team's execution at the pit stop, underlining Ferrari's operational performance even as the overall race strategy yielded suboptimal results. The incident highlighted the marginal differences in Formula 1 decision-making, where split-second judgements can determine the difference between podium finishes and mid-field results.
