Hanoi expands electric bus fleet with two new routes

Hanoi has introduced electric buses on two additional routes, marking the latest phase in the city's transition toward cleaner public transport. The service expansion reflects growing efforts to modernize the capital's bus network and address air quality concerns in one of Southeast Asia's most densely populated urban centers.

The deployment is being executed by Transerco, the municipal bus operator responsible for managing Hanoi's public transportation fleet. The company has established an ambitious sustainability roadmap aimed at significantly increasing the proportion of electric and green vehicles across its operations.

Under Transerco's environmental strategy, the operator targets bringing the share of green vehicles in its fleet to more than 51 percent by the end of 2026. The new routes represent a concrete step toward achieving this goal and building on previous electric bus introductions throughout the city.

The expansion of electric bus services aligns with Hanoi's broader vision to reduce transportation-related emissions and improve air quality. As Vietnam's capital continues to grapple with urban congestion and pollution challenges, increased reliance on electric public transportation offers a pathway toward more sustainable city planning and environmental stewardship.
