Hanoi targets 50 million annual visitors by 2030 amid tourism expansion

Hanoi has set its sights on welcoming between 47 million and 50.5 million tourist arrivals by 2030, positioning itself as one of Vietnam's foremost tourism centers. The target includes 13 million to 15 million international visitors alongside 34 million to 35.5 million domestic travelers, reflecting the capital's strategy to balance foreign and domestic tourism demand.

Revenue projections accompanying the expansion plan are equally ambitious. Tourism earnings are expected to reach between 295 trillion and 340 trillion Vietnamese dong—equivalent to 11.43 billion to 13.17 billion US dollars—over the planned period. This revenue growth underscores the sector's increasing importance to the city's economy.

The tourism sector's contribution to Hanoi's gross regional domestic product is projected to rise to between 7.5 and 8 percent by 2030, up from current levels. The expansion aligns with broader infrastructure and urban renewal initiatives, including a proposed 859-million-dollar project to revitalize the Hoan Kiem Lake area, one of the city's most iconic attractions.

These tourism targets come as Hanoi continues advancing other development priorities. The municipal government has cleared 20 resolutions supporting various development initiatives while deferring two metro rail mechanisms requiring further deliberation. Officials have also completed surveying all planned martyrs' graves across the capital as part of heritage preservation efforts.
