The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced Hardeep Puri as its candidate for the Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha bypoll, filling the seat vacated by L Murugan. The move comes as Puri completes his tenure as a Rajya Sabha member representing Uttar Pradesh, with his current term concluding in November.
Earlier this month, the BJP opted not to renominate Puri from Uttar Pradesh, instead fielding eight new faces for the state's Rajya Sabha contingent. This development paved the way for his candidacy in the Madhya Pradesh bypoll.
Puri, a senior BJP functionary with extensive experience in parliamentary affairs, will now represent the Madhya Pradesh constituency in the Upper House. The nomination reflects the party's strategy to retain experienced legislators within its Rajya Sabha representation while managing transitions across multiple states.
The bypoll will follow the established procedures for Upper House elections in Madhya Pradesh, with voting expected to take place in the coming weeks.
