Harish Rawat, a prominent Congress leader, has stepped down from his organizational roles within the party following searches conducted by the Enforcement Directorate at the residence of his aide. The decision came in the wake of the federal agency's investigation into alleged financial irregularities.

During the searches, the ED seized approximately Rs 32 lakh in unaccounted cash from the aide's premises. The agency also recovered gold ornaments including 13 gold coins and 7 gold chains with a combined weight of around 200.5 grams, along with 12 luxury watches valued significantly.

The recovery of these items during the enforcement directorate's operation prompted questions about the source and nature of the assets. Rawat's decision to resign from his Congress positions represents a significant development in the party's internal affairs during a sensitive period.

The Congress leader's move reflects the gravity with which such enforcement actions are treated within political circles, particularly when they involve senior party functionaries and their associates. The case underscores ongoing scrutiny of political finances in the country.
