HarperCollins to publish Sonia Gandhi memoir as Penguin steps back

HarperCollins India announced it will publish Sonia Gandhi's long-awaited memoir next month, taking over from Penguin Random House India which exited the project amid a dispute regarding editorial modifications to the manuscript.

The memoir, chronicling Gandhi's life and political journey in India, was originally slated for publication by Penguin Random House India. However, the publisher withdrew from the arrangement following disagreements over proposed changes to the manuscript's content and editorial direction.

Gandhi's decision to transition to HarperCollins ensures the memoir's release will proceed as scheduled for November 10. The publication marks a significant literary contribution from the veteran Congress politician, whose life has been intertwined with India's political landscape for decades.

The project's shift between publishers highlights the complexities sometimes involved in publishing politically sensitive memoirs in India, where editorial considerations can occasionally lead to friction between authors and publishing houses.
