Pradeep Mundeja, a bank manager from Haryana, has accomplished the demanding trek to Everest Base Camp despite having 100 per cent hearing loss since age seven. The expedition represents a major personal milestone for Mundeja, who undertook months of dedicated preparation to navigate the high-altitude route across challenging terrain in the Himalayas.
The trek to Everest Base Camp, situated at approximately 5,364 metres, poses significant physical demands on trekkers, including altitude acclimatisation, extreme weather conditions, and rugged mountain pathways. Mundeja's successful completion of the journey underscores the capacity of individuals with hearing impairments to undertake demanding physical endeavours when adequately trained and prepared.
Mundeja's achievement comes as part of a broader recognition of adaptive mountaineering and trekking initiatives across India. His completion of the trek adds to a growing body of examples demonstrating that physical disabilities need not preclude participation in adventure activities and challenging outdoor pursuits.
The Everest Base Camp trek remains one of South Asia's most popular high-altitude trekking destinations, attracting thousands of trekkers annually from across India and abroad. Mundeja's expedition highlights the accessibility of such treks to individuals from diverse physical backgrounds when proper training and preparation are undertaken.
